The overall responsibility of the CFO for Action Against Hunger USA is to provide leadership, direction, strategy, vision and integrity to our Global Finance, IT and Administration functions.

Responsibilities

Financial Management and Operations: 

  • Oversee all financial operations, including accounting, financial reporting, and compliance. 
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records and reports. 
  • Manage cash flow, investments, and financial risk to maintain the financial health of the organization. 

Financial Strategy and Planning: 

  • Lead the multi-year and annual budgeting processes, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities. 
  • Develop and implement financial strategies to support organizational growth and sustainability. 
  • Perform risk management and annual sensitivity analyses. 

Risk and Compliance:   

  • Oversee the Risk and Compliance Function 
  • Ensure the organization has a culture of accountability, Compliance and risk awareness at all levels 
  • Oversee the Risk and Compliance program  

IT and Administrative Leadership:  

  • Oversee the IT Function 
  • Oversee the Admin Function, that includes facilities, logistics (procurement/supply chain) and general administration (Travel and US office management). 
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and reporting requirements.

Strategic Planning and Support: 

  • Serve as a strategic leader and business partner to the CEO. 
  • Provide strategic guidance and financial oversight to support the organization’s mission and goals. 
  • Collaborate with the CEO and Executive Leadership Team on the development and execution of the organization’s strategic plan.

Requirements

Required Qualifications 

  • Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field. 
  • Professional Certification (e.g., CPA, CFA, or equivalent) preferred.

Required Skills & Experience  

  •  Extensive experience (15+ years) in senior financial management roles in an International nonprofit, humanitarian, or development-focused organization. 
  • Strong ability to align financial management with organizational strategy and goals. 
  • Proven experience in managing large-scale budgets awards and donor funding. 
  • Experience with international operations and navigating the complexities of foreign currencies, tax structures, and multi-country financial regulations. 
  • Familiarity with institutional donor regulations and reporting standards. 
  • Experience in financial reporting (annual financial statements, audits, budget monitoring) 
  • Advanced knowledge of financial management tools (e.g., ERP systems like SAP, Oracle, or financial software used in the nonprofit sector). 
  • Strong proficiency in financial planning and analysis (FP&A), including the ability to drive strategy through data analysis and modeling. 
  • Familiarity with international accounting standards (IFRS or GAAP) as applicable to humanitarian organizations. 
  • In-depth knowledge of internal controls, risk management, and compliance frameworks. 
  • Proven leadership skills, with the ability to manage, mentor, and develop a diverse team of finance and administration professionals. 
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders (Board of Directors, donors, partners). 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other departments (programs, HR, operations, etc.) and senior leadership in a cross-functional environment. 
  • Experience in leading change management initiatives related to financial systems and processes. 
  • Ability to anticipate and mitigate financial risks associated with the humanitarian and development context. 
  • Understanding of humanitarian principles, development programs, and the financial challenges faced by large NGOs in different regions. 
  • Knowledge of financial regulations and policies specific to the nonprofit and international development sectors. 
  • Experience working in multicultural and international environments and the ability to understand and respect diverse cultural perspectives. 
  • Ability to navigate and manage the complexity of remote or field-based operations. 
  • Strong commitment to transparency, accountability, and ethical practices in financial and operational management. 
  • Ability to ensure compliance with anti-corruption and anti-fraud regulations. 
  • Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making skills in high-pressure situations. 
  • Detail-oriented, yet able to see the “big picture” and strategize accordingly. 
  • High level of professional integrity and accountability. 
  • Willingness to travel to field offices and operations in various international locations as required by the role. 
  • Foreign language skills a plus.
