The Australian National University (ANU) is offering International Research Scholarships for 2025, aimed at attracting outstanding researchers worldwide. These scholarships provide financial support for living expenses and tuition, enabling scholars to focus on their innovative research projects and contribute to global knowledge advancement.
Each year the Commonwealth Department of Education and Training provides funding to Universities to award scholarships to domestic and international students undertaking Higher Degree Research programs. ANU currently conducts two annual central scholarship rounds which includes the RTP, the University Research Scholarship and a few other centrally managed scholarships.

Student Eligibility Requirements
- Hold a relevant undergraduate degree with first-class honors or equivalent.
- Submit a well-defined research proposal aligned with ANU’s research strengths.
- Provide proof of English language proficiency through tests like IELTS or TOEFL, if applicable.
- Obtain an offer of admission to an eligible research program at ANU.
- Be an international student, not an Australian or New Zealand citizen or permanent resident.
- Compliance with Visa Requirements
Selection Basis
Candidates are ranked and scholarships are awarded based on a competitive ranking process, to the top ranked candidates, subject to evidence they meet merit-based selection criteria, and subject to confirmation of a qualified supervisor, space and resources being available, in an area of research that is aligned with ANU research strategy.
Benefits of the Scholarship
- Stipend scholarship for three and half years, with the possibility of an extension
- Travel and removal allowances for students relocating to Canberra to commence their research program.
