The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is thrilled to invite applications for an Assistant Administrative Officer position in 2025. This position is located in the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), Regional Office for the Pacific based in Suva, Fiji. The incumbent reports to the Regional Representative for the Pacific or the designee.

Responsibilities

  • Human Resource Management – Undertake action related to the administration of the Office’s human resource activities: recruitment, placement, promotion, job classification reviews, performance appraisal, contract extension, separation, training etc. and ensure consistency in the application and full compliant of the UN rules, regulations and procedures.
  • Provides information regarding conditions of services, duties and responsibilities, privileges and entitlements under the Staff Rules and Regulations.
  • Budget and Finance – Assists in developing the unit’s work programme and budget; analyses inputs and formulates resource allocations by work programme, or business processes.
  • Using Umoja, monitor budget/work program with respect to Headquarters’ budget, trust funds and grants, on a regular basis, and reallocates resources as necessary.
  • General Administration – Performs other related administrative duties as required (e.g., operational travel programme, monitoring accounts and payment to vendors and individual contractors for services, physical space planning and the identification of office technology needs and maintenance of equipment, software (Umoja) and systems.

Requirements

Education

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in business or public administration, finance, accounting, law or related field.
  • A first-level university degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in combination with two additional years of work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience

  • For candidates who hold a first level university degree, a minimum of two years of experience in administration, finance, accounting, human resources management or related areas is required.
  • No experience is needed for candidates who hold an advanced university degree.
  • Experience in the application of administrative/financial policies of the United Nations or similar international organization is desirable.
  • Experience in the usage of web-based management system is desirable.
  • Experience in the usage of spreadsheets and database packages is desirable.
