The United Nations is seeking an Associate Accountant to join its finance team in Geneva. This role involves managing financial records, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with international accounting standards. Candidates with relevant qualifications and experience are encouraged to apply for this opportunity. The position is located in the Project Support Unit, within the Financial Management Section (FM), Division of Programme Support. The objective of the position is to support financial operations and budgetary processes and oversee award and utilization of grants and funding provided to implementing partners. The Financial Management Section (FM) consists of three units, Budget Unit, Financial Operations and Accounting Unit, and Project Support and Implementation Unit, all reporting to reporting to the Chief of Financial Management

Responsibilities
- Reviews, approves, reconciles and processes a range of accounting transactions on a regular and recurring basis.
- Approves/Confirms that proposed obligations or expenditures for services, facilities supplies and equipment expenses, as well as those pertaining to personnel, are in accordance with the Financial Regulations and Rules of the UN, relevant appropriations and staffing tables and corresponding approved allotments.
- Responsible for the issuance and control of petty cash funds, to ensure compliance with the UN Financial Regulations and Rules.
- Reviews requisitions generated by the ERP system for goods and services to ensure (a) correct objects of expenditure have been charged, and (b) availability of funds.

Requirements
Education
- A first-level university degree in business administration, finance, accounting or related field is required.
- Note: An advanced degree (Masters or equivalent) in business administration, finance or a related field may be considered in lieu of the professional work experience.
Work Experience
- A minimum of two years (0 with an advanced degree) of experience in accounting, finance, budget, administration is required.
- Experience of Financial and Budget Management in the UN context is desirable.
