Estonia offers diverse scholarship opportunities for international students, researchers, and academic staff. These programs aim to foster global collaboration, enhance educational experiences, and promote innovative research across various fields in a vibrant academic environment.

The scholarship supports the participation of foreign students in summer and winter schools of the Estonian universities. Scholarships can be applied by the foreign bachelor’s, master’s and PhD students who, by the time of applying, have studied in their universities for at least one year (including former study levels)

Amount of Scholarship

  • the rate of the scholarship for first-cycle  (BA level) higher education and master’s studies is 350 euros per month;
  • the rate of the doctoral scholarship is 660 euros per month;

Requirements

  • Must be accepted into an Estonian higher education institution.
  • Relevant secondary education or higher education degree, depending on the level of study.
  • Proficiency in English or Estonian, typically proven through standardized tests (e.g., TOEFL, IELTS).
  • A personal statement detailing your academic interests and reasons for choosing Estonia.
  • Recommendation Letters from academic or professional references.

For Researchers and Academic Staff:

  • A detailed research proposal outlining the objectives and methodology.
  • Must be affiliated with an Estonian research institution or university.
  • Relevant academic and research background in the proposed field.
  • Proficiency in English or Estonian as required by the research institution.
  • Updated curriculum vitae and list of publications (if applicable).

    Application Procedure

    The application is submitted by a student of a foreign higher education institution on the application form in English. 

    The application form containing a motivation letter must be submitted with the following annexes:

    • a copy of your passport or ID card;
    • a copy of the confirmation letter concerning the students’ admission to an Estonian higher education institution.

    If the additional documents are not in Estonian or English, they must be provided with translations into either English or Estonian. All documents must be attached to the email. Documents signed on paper are submitted scanned. The Education and Youth Board has the right to check the conformity of the submitted documents with the originals. Applications that don’t have attached a confirmation letter of admission to an Estonian higher education institution, by the application deadline, will not be processed.
