Org. Setting and Reporting

Multiple administration internship vacancies are available at the United Nations (UN) for 2024. These positions are in the Operations Coordination and Liaison Unit (OCLU) of the Operations Service (OS) of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF or the Fund) Pension Administration. The incumbent reports to the Chief of OCLU under the overall guidance of the Chief of OSS. The internship is based in New York and is available for a period of six months.

Responsibilities

  • Within limits of delegated authority, the Intern is responsible for the following duties: • Originates and updates pension files from enrolment to separation ensuring that all relevant documentation has been received.
  • Reviews UNJSPF participant documents and proactively follows-up on unsubmitted separation documents from the participant and member organization.
  • Monitors and records all changes of UNJSPF participant status, e.g., family history, change in employment situations.
  • Follow-up on administrative documents to support participant data changes.
  • Perform data analysis related to participant information and employment records.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • The intern is expected to: Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter, and
  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views

Education

  • To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:
  • Applicants to the programme must meet one of the following requirements at the time of their application: (a) Be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or (b) Be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent)
  • Applicants who have graduated (as defined in (a) or (b) above), if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation
  • Be computer literate in standard software applications

Languages

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
  • For the position advertised, fluency in English is required.
