Organizational Setting and Reporting
United Nations (UN) Associate Economic Affairs Officer Vacancy for 2025 in Geneva. This position is located in the UNECE’s Economic Cooperation and Trade Division (ECTD). The Associate Economics Affairs Officer will report to the Chief of ECTD’s Innovative Policies Development Section. This position is temporarily available for an initial period of five (5) months, with possibility of extension. If the selected candidate is a staff member from the United Nations Secretariat, the selection will be administered as a temporary assignment.

Responsibilities
The incumbent will work on two extrabudgetary projects:
(i) Enhancing Transparency and Traceability for Sustainable Value Chains in Strategic Sectors for the Green and Digital Transitions in the UNECE Region and Beyond;
(ii) Promoting Innovation Policy Capacities in Eastern Europe and the Caucasus. Economic and/or sector analysis:
- Collects, evaluates, interprets, analyses specified statistics and qualitative socio-economic information obtained from a variety of sources and pertaining to particular sectors, countries, regions or development topics.
- Maintains databases and programmes for database management and organizes non-quantitative information.
- Assists in the design, testing, operation and modification of econometric models.
- Prepares briefing notes, inputs to speeches and similar material on economic or sector issues in a form that is meaningful to non-specialists.
- Prepares first drafts of sector, country or regional components of analytical studies on development issues and policies.
- Assists in the organization and servicing of expert group meetings, seminars, etc on development issues.
- Technical cooperation: Compiles and analyses the data and other information necessary for the preparation of technical cooperation project proposals in the area of economic development.
- Prepares documentation for technical cooperation programmes and projects.
- Contributes to the preparation of material for the approval of regional, country or sector technical cooperation projects.
- Monitors, backstops and assesses the implementation of technical cooperation programmes and projects.
- General: Performs other related duties as required, including a variety of administrative tasks necessary for the final delivery of the work unit’s services. Undertakes on-the-job and other training activities, both internally and externally.

Requirements
Education
- An advanced university degree (Master’s or Doctorate degree, or equivalent) in economics or related fields is required.
- A first-level or advanced degree (Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctorate degree, or equivalent) in any field of studies with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree in the specified fields of studies.

Work Experience
- A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in economic research and analysis, policy formulation, application of economic principles in development programmes or related area is required.
- English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat and Russian is a working language of ECE. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required and knowledge of Russian is desirable.
