The United Nations is seeking motivated candidates for a Public Information Internship in the Visitors Services Section. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain valuable experience, contribute to global communication efforts, and support the UN’s mission for peace and development.
This internship is designed to be full-time and in-person in New York but could be adjusted based on the request of the successful candidate. Visitors Services is part of the Outreach Division, Department of Global Communications in New York City, which engages and educates people and their communities worldwide to encourage support for the ideals and activities of the United Nations. The Visitors Services Section interfaces directly with the general public to offer guided tours of UN Headquarters in New York and briefings with UN expert speakers, as well as a Public Inquiries counter where visitors can obtain information materials and ask questions.

Responsibilities
- Assisting with planning and organizing outreach activities to educate the public about the UN’s work
- Providing support for the organization of guided tours, briefings, and events
- Conducting research on UN thematic issues
- Providing general office support (drafting correspondence and other communications, setting up and maintaining files/records and databases, organizing meetings, etc.)
- Responding to visitors’ queries in person and in writing
- Assisting with the development, implementation, and analysis of surveys on visitors’ experience

Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
- (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
- (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience; however, a field of study that is related to the type of internship is required.
- Good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word and MS PowerPoint, is required.
- Ability to draft short articles and texts for fact sheets and information materials is desirable.
