The United Nations seeks a Senior Programme Management Officer in New York. This pivotal role involves overseeing critical programs, ensuring strategic alignment, and enhancing international collaboration to advance the UN’s global objectives and mission.
This position is located in the Data Innovation and Capacity Branch (DICB) in the Statistics Division of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) at New York Headquarter. The Senior Programme Management Officer reports directly to the Chief of Branch.

Responsibilities
- Takes the lead in preparing and providing substantive support and analytical backstopping to the work of the IHLEG for the successful implementation of its mandate under tight deadlines during the year 2025.
- Directs review of relevant documents and reports; identifies priorities, problems and issues to be addressed and proposes corrective actions; liaises with relevant parties; identifies and initiates follow-up actions.
- Ensures implementation of gender mainstreaming guidelines by assessing the implications for men and women of any planned action, including legislation, policies or programmes, in all areas and at all levels.
- Directs research and programme evaluation and presents information gathered from diverse sources.
- Coordinates policy development; reviews the assessments of issues and trends, preparation of evaluations or research activities and studies.
- Undertakes survey initiatives; guides design of data collection instruments; reviews, analyzes and interprets responses, identifies problems/issues and prepares conclusions.
- Supervises preparation of various written outputs.

Requirements
- Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in public administration, management, economics or a related field is required.
- A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
- Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is an advantage.
- A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, administration or related area is required.
- Experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
