The UNEP Data and Communications Associate plays a pivotal role in enhancing environmental sustainability. By managing data and communicating vital information, this position supports the United Nations Environment Programme’s mission to promote sound environmental practices and drive global awareness on pressing ecological issues. The Data and Communications Associate is primarily responsible for the development and implementation of GEF data analysis and communications efforts and for ensuring that these are integrated into the wider reporting and communications efforts of the Branch and Division.

Responsibilities

• Under the overall supervision of the Senior Programme Management Officer and the direct supervision of the programme Budget Officer and Technical Team Lead, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
• Compiles and analyses the data and other information on the Unit Portfolio of projects
• Coordinates quarterly and annual reporting cycle to the UNEP GEF coordination office and other portfolio stakeholders including internal reporting systems such as IPMR and umoja.
• Further building, deploying, and maintaining/supporting of the portfolio database as per technical scope of work to be provided by the Unit management
• Developing, constructing, testing, and maintaining ETL pipelines in coordination with the UNEP and UNON Business Intelligence Unit and other relevant teams
• Identify ways to improve data reliability, efficiency and quality including training and support to Task Managers to use the system

Requirements

• Master degree or equivalent in Buisness Analytics, Data Science, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Science, Communications, Public Relations, , or related fields is required.
• Area(s) of specialization (education): Full Stack Development, Buisness Intelligence, Data Analytics, Data Engineering Applied Mathematics, Statistics or a relevant area of study related to computer/data sciences.

Skills and experience

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in Data Management and Communications and /or related fields is required.
• Excellent oral and written skills; and skills in simplifying data management and systems development for non-technical users.
• Understanding of common databases and data structures · Proficiency with the Microsoft Power Platform.
• Excel, PowerAutomate, Power BI (including DAX), PowerQuery (including M), PowerApps (including PowerFX) is required.
• Back-end development skills, such as APIs preferable.
• Experiece with project and programme management preferable (PRINCE2).
• Excellent communication skills and editorial skills, including oral and writing communication skills is required.
