UNICEF is hiring a Consultant to support impactful programmes benefiting children globally. This role offers a meaningful opportunity to contribute expertise, collaborate with diverse teams, and help create a brighter future for every child. Sitting in the Ventures’ Emerging Tech team, this consultant will have a belief that OSS and DPGs can be a powerful tool to help UNICEF rapidly accelerate positive results for children.

Responsibilities

  • Providing OS technical and strategic guidance, support and mentorship.
  • Venture Fund supported team seed and growth cohort projects and companies.
  • UNICEF’s Office of Innovation and other UNICEF teams, divisions, and offices.
  • Supporting the technical exploration, development and rollout of early-stage OS & DPG initiatives and prototypes, within UNICEF with an aim to accelerate results for children.
  • Working with internal and external stakeholders to support the partnership, adoption and scale of OS & DPG initiatives across UNICEF.

Requirements

  • An advanced university degree (master’s or higher) in engineering, technology, computer science, or another relevant field.
  • A first University Degree in a relevant field combined with 2 additional years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an Advanced University Degree.
  • A minimum of five years of relevant professional, practical experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in required technical areas, including software quality assurance, Open-Source license strategies (copyleft vs. permissive), documentation and community management, developing and piloting Open-Source technology products.
  • Experience in delivering guidance, technical support and mentorship to individuals, teams, start-ups, or other groups on complex challenges.
  • Experience with professional software engineering practices and best practices for the full software development life cycle and exposure to a variety of languages, frameworks, and toolchains.
