🎯 Role Summary
The Space Planning Officer will lead and coordinate complex space planning activities to support the DC2 multi-year Capital Renovation Project, aimed at transforming 25 floors of the UN DC2 building into flexible, modern workspace environments. This role includes needs assessments, office relocation planning, swing space allocation, and managing move operations. The officer ensures workspace efficiency, safety, and functional design while enabling seamless operations for UN departments. This position supports the UN’s mission of operational excellence and contributes to long-term institutional modernization.

🧩 Key Responsibilities
- Lead space planning initiatives including needs assessment, swing space analysis, and long-term space allocation.
- Analyze occupancy trends and propose relocation strategies for departments impacted by renovation activities.
- Develop Block and Stack Plans ensuring logical adjacencies, workflow optimization, and sequential move planning.
- Coordinate with departments to gather space requirements, assess feasibility, and deliver strategic briefs.
- Communicate move dates, schedules, and logistical details aligned with project timelines.
- Manage relocation operations, including IT, HVAC, equipment, and furniture coordination.
- Oversee the computerized facilities management (CAFM) system and ensure accurate, up-to-date data.
- Administer moving and construction contracts, ensuring compliance, cost-effectiveness, and timely performance.
- Support design, construction oversight, and office reconfiguration activities related to the renovation process.
🎓 Required Qualifications
Education:
- Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Architecture, Engineering, or related field.
- A first-level degree with 2 additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of a Master’s.
Experience:
- Minimum 7 years of progressively responsible experience in architectural or engineering design and planning, with a strong emphasis on office space planning.
- Required: Experience with furniture systems and supervisory responsibilities.
- Desirable: Experience with New York City office leases and commercial office relocation operations.
Language:
- English: Required (Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking at UN Level III).
- French is desirable as one of the UN’s working languages.
