Responsibilities

  • Provide substantive research support on subjects related to the work of the Social Justice Team; in particular, on skills development and lifelong learning for decent work and social justice.
  • Review existing literature; conducting desk research; collecting quantitative and qualitative data from secondary sources.
  • Compile, tabulate and analyze different types of data sets on various socioeconomic issues relating to skills development, lifelong learning for decent work, and social justice.
  • Generate a variety of statistical reports and preparing presentations, tables, lists, charts, data sets, and/or diagrams for reporting and presentation purposes.
  • Draft inputs to presentations, speeches, papers, technical material, policy briefs and research papers.
  • Support the organization of meetings, online meetings, or capacity-building workshops.
  • Prepare minutes of meetings.
  • Draft final reports of workshops and meetings as requested.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Requirements

Qualifications/special skills

  • A Master’s degree or equivalent in a social science related field such as sociology, economics, development studies, political sciences, international relations, public policy, or any other related field is required.
  • All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
  • A minimum of 3 years of professional work experience in socio-economic research, social policy research, writing of research papers and reports, and analysis of statistics is required.

Languages

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA.
  • For this position, fluency in English and Arabic is required.
  • Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
