Job Description
United Nations Local Consultant Vacancy in Vienna for 2025. Apply Today! United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is mandated to assist Member States in their struggle against, organized crime and terrorism. UNODC, as the guardian of crime prevention and criminal justice standards and norms, the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC) and its related Protocols, the UN Convention against Corruption (UNCAC), as well as the various international instruments of environment crime, long recognized as involving transnational organized crime. In this regard, environmental crimes are a threat to the environment and frequently involve other forms of serious criminality such as money laundering, corruption, human trafficking, tax and customs fraud, labour exploitation, and environmental and public health and safety laws. Organized criminal networks are moving illegally harvested wildlife as well as illegal timber, using a variety of smuggling techniques, often by means of existing infrastructures and well-developed routes used for the trafficking of drugs, people, weapons, counterfeit goods and other forms of contraband. Furthermore, it fosters corruption, robs communities of their resources, and impacts livelihoods and food security of local populations.
To address this, UNODC’s Global Programme on Crimes that Affect the Environment (GPCAE) delivers a range of technical assistance activities within several thematic areas towards achieving the key project objective of strengthening capacity to prevent and combat environmental crimes on a regional, national and local basis. The GPCAE also raises awareness of environmental crime among different stakeholders at the global and regional levels, including civil society, aimed to contribute to the reduction of demand for wild fauna and flora. UNODC’s GPCAE is implementing ‘crime scene to court’ programming at a global scale and is in need of a consultant to support its data management process in order to enhance the collection, consolidation and presentation of quality data corresponding to the implementation of the European Union-funded activities under the International Consortium for Combating Wildlife Crime (ICCWC).
