United Nations (UN) Intern Vacancy, International Environmental Law Knowledge Management. Apply! The United Nations Environment Programme is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. Effectively addressing global environmental challenges depends on a well-functioning and coherent governance framework and on a common understanding of each actor’s role and mandate. Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) form a core part of International Environmental Law (IEL) and play a key role in international environmental governance.
To support the efforts by international environmental governance fora to bring greater coherence to the development, implementation and enforcement of IEL, by Parties to MEAs with the support of civil society, the InforMEA project harnesses technological advances to enhance access to information and knowledge on MEAs and IEL for the benefit of stakeholders tasked with the further development and implementation of IEL and conventions. This Internship is under the supervision of the Team Leader of the Collective Intelligence Unit and is in Geneva, Switzerland.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with the tagging of key documents harvested into the InforMEA and UNEP LEAP portals, including but not limited to MEA COP Decisions of strategic importance, Agreement texts, E-Learning modules, text portions of publications against the set of terms and against Sustainable Development Goals, Targets, and indicators, as well as other internationally agreed goals and targets.
- Support the overall work of the Collective Intelligence Unit Team, including with the preparation of internal and external meetings, including as appropriate, collaboration with partners and consultants, and in the implementation of the 4th phase of the Collective Intelligence for Environmental Governance project.
- Assist with research and drafting in support of the E-Learning section of InforMEA as appropriate.
- Assist with monitoring and use of the different components of InforMEA by users.
- Supporting internal and external communication efforts, including supporting the drafting of social media posts for platforms such as Facebook, X, and LinkedIn.
- Other support to the Team, as appropriate.

Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). The preferred area of study is in Information Technology, Data Science or Environmental Law. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.

However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), master’s or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Please note that you will have to provide an official certificate at a later stage. Applicants should have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams.
