UNODC invites passionate professionals to become a Programme Management Officer, shaping strategic projects across global criminal justice and drug control efforts. Collaborate with governments, lead capacity-building workshops, and guide data-driven policies to safeguard communities and strengthen border controls. This position is located in the New York Liaison Office (NYLO), Division for Policy Analysis and Public Affairs (DPA), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), based in New York. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the NYLO Representative.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in inter-governmental and inter-agency meetings at United Nations Headquarters in New York, as and when required.
  • Consult with officials in New York Headquarters-based offices and organizations, including inter-alia the Executive Office of the Secretary-General.
  • Maintain regular contact with key Permanent Missions to promote the work programme of UNODC, and with regard to preparations for inter-governmental meetings and conferences.
  • Participate on behalf of UNODC in non-governmental (NGO) and civil society organizations’ (CSO) fora and provide briefings to stimulate interest in the work programme of UNODC.
  • Facilitate contact with the private sector, including foundations based in North America, for the purpose of fund-raising and leveraging resources.
  • Set up meetings and prepare background briefs on specific issues.

Requirements

  • An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in political science, international law, international relations, business administration, or a related field is required.
  • A first-level university degree in similar fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional work experience in policy analysis, programme development, management or implementation in a large organization, national government or intergovernmental organization is required.
  • Work experience in drafting reports, statements or analyses for senior officials is required.
  • Work experience in developing and organizing visibility events at the margins of intergovernmental meetings is desirable.
